Jan. 7 Agenda and Reports (Copied (cut) from Suggested Agenda (&Reports) scplrefreps Wikipage):
January 7 2016 (9-12), Osprey @ Spanish Point
Agenda & Reports:
1. Reports on FaxScan 24:
A. Lake Placid: Librarian has been there 6 months- says it is a small, quiet library, and that the Faxscan24 sees about 1 use per day and there have been no issues or problems with it. (now waiting on a promised email with more info. from the Lake Placid Librarian), (Victor L., Nov 10, '15)
11/23/15 VL:
Just tried successfully with
Faxzero.com
to test fax to EQ a one page PDF via the Internet-(offers 2 free faxes per day- 3 pages long)
however I had to use my yahoo email to click a confirm to send button as both Hotmail and scgov.net didn't even get the confirm email in their spam folders...
(and their next page after clicking to send to your email- is a warning not to send to Hotmail- as Hotmail has them on a block list...)
Had to give an email and a phone number- am not sure what their privacy policy is.
B. November 13, 2015 Winter Haven,
I , (Katresa G.) spoke with Linda Babli, reference librarian/ FaxScan24 representative. She stated that the system was 100% self-service and works very well and the staff not support or maintain the kiosk. The library has been using FaxScan24 since 2009. The steps are very simple to follow and patrons must use the phone to follow prompts in order to successfully complete a fax. The library receives 5% proceeds from service which she stated as a benefit to the library. The vendor supplies all of the paper and is very efficient in rapidly responding to sending paper when requested. The library uses a regular phone line that is dedicated solely to the fax service. The cost to fax is $1.75 for the first page and $1.00 for any additional pages. Linda noted that there have not been any technical problems with the kiosk itself. The only minor issues are when patrons have papers that are not fit to scan (i.e. wrinkled paper or torn paper). One concern that I brought up is our patron demographics (i.e. elderly). The fax service is via phone and could be a potential problem for patrons with hearing impairments. Linda agreed. Overall, she stated that she would recommend the service to other libraries.
Linda noted at the end of our conversation that the library will be moving to a new system at the end of December by EnvisionWare called Library Document Station. This will be a costly move but has more features that will benefit their library and surrounding libraries are migrating toward it as well.
Here is the link to the new system: http://www.envisionware.com/lds
C. December 12, 2015 Okeechobee County Public Library
Ana Feliciano Chico - I called and the librarian I talked to told me they had to send their fax machine back because they didn't have an extra phone line for it. She said they tried using different phone lines, but it would disrupt the use of those lines so they made the decision to return it.
D. 1/4/16 Sebring Public Library - Rino
Notes from Seabring Library call:
* Fax is self-service, but staff is occasionally asked for help by patrons.
o Some patrons are harder to convince that they can do it on their own.
o Can't really help them because all instructions occur over the phone.
o There are credit card numbers that must be inputted.
* Not a money maker.
o The revenue from the fax service has not paid for the extra phone line that had to be put in - it's been a little over a year since faxing started being offered.
* Patrons complain about the fixed costs of the fax service.
o Staff has no control over prices and has to remind patrons of this fact.
* Fax service is interrupted by the auto-dialing system the library uses for notices.
o Not clear why the lines are competing with each other.
* There have been no maintenance problems for the equipment during the past year of use.
* Overall, the library is glad that they can offer the fax as a service.
E. 1/5/16 Hardee Public Library - Jane
Spoke to Rhonda and she told me that the fax service is successful and she would recommend. They have had Fax24 for about a year and the only issue they had was with the scan function - a customer's scan to email turned out to be all scrambled. There is very little staff involvement, mainly just telling customers where it is.
